Frank Ocean is another dude from the Odd Future collective. He's put together a nice little R&B album and was kind enough to let everyone download it for free. I personally think there's a couple slow spots but overall this is a great album/indicator of Frank's talent. Check the download link after the album cover.
A nice jam from an awesome group...wish they were still together but Raphael Saddiq is doing just fine on his own. This wasn't a single or anything...its just a dope song. Enjoy.
We know more times than not sequels suck when it comes to movies. The Hangover 2 has me ditching the aforementioned theory. This trailer doesn't reveal much, but it's enough to get me excited for the release. Also, can't help but thinking I want a lil monkey like the one shown here.
I'll admit it its hard to keep up with rap these days, anyone can become a rapper now, you just need a little initiative and loads of creativity.
One of the groups I just found out about are called 'Das Racist' and they are pretty funny, I would recommend their mixtape Sit Down, Man, with the likes of Boi-1da and many others it makes a fun listening even if they are just plain silly at times.
But just take a listen even if you find one gem, rich is rich.
America is home to so many ideas and rarely do we give credit to what doesn't fit in the traditional. Today I want to talk about shock rap. Simply hip hop has always been a form of expression but for some reason people have always liked violence in their rap, somethin like people liking action movies (you know you like eminem, you know you like bruce lee, you know you like dexter)
So now for some action rap, I admit its a little fugged up but thats what people want right?
This director Yonie has been making unofficial videos for songs off of Kanyes latest album. This most recent one for Blame Game is actually pretty dope. In fact I dare say it's better than the official videos that have been coming out for Ye's album.
Just to piggyback on Vinney's post about Tyler The Creator...I figured I'd post their TV debut on the Jimmy Fallon show. I like how they scare both guests and Jimmy and how Mos Def appears out of nowhere yelling SWAG
I don't know much about Tyler the Creator or Odd Future, but I will say that dude is on some other shit. This video is so crazy that I debated putting it on the site. But just because it's different doesn't mean it doesn't have a place on #JMHO. So here it is, the craziest music video I've seen quite some time, if not ever.
I'm a little late posting this, but it's been on my iPod for a few days now. I stumbled across the video and the chick with Fly Union in the 1st and 3rd verse is my dream girl. So if any of y'all see her before I do give her @sledge_mylez twitter so I can make something happen. LOL i'm trippin.. but seriously this song has a smooth feel and is worth a listen for more than the dimepiece
Here's a new cut from Lasers, and Lupe definitely didn't dumb it down on this one. I love an artist that has the moxie to push the envelope and say what (s)he want's to say. Look for a Lasers review coming soon.
I'm happy to say my boy released his new album "The New Flesh" today. I'm listening to the album as I type this, and so far it's dope as fuck. You can listen to it on Bandcamp and then download it by naming your own price. Don't be cheap and download it for free...dude put work into this project. (I suggest paying $9.99 if you like it and hit him up on twitter @topdollagotit and let him know what you think!)
Ab Soul dropped this gem late tonight via twitter. This song makes me want to roll the windows down and still have the air conditioning on. Since it's snow outside, looks like I'll have to hold off on that for the foreseeable future. Either way it's going on my ipod in t-minus 3 minutes.
I'm sure most of you have seen this video already. If you haven't, here you go. Im not a huge fan...the shit looks like a damn rave and someone has HAD to have gotten a seizure from it. I do like the parts where i can see 85% of Rhiannas boobs though.
To celebrate the honor of being crowned one of XXL's top freshman for 2011 Mac Miller dropped this cut off the Best Day Ever. This song has a crazy beat and a smooth effortless flow from Mac. Release date is scheduled for March 11 and I'm sure me and Rizzle will have a review up soon after.. Till then take a listen..
This is my favorite issue of the XXL magazine.. I've never agreed with all the picks and this year is no different. Here are the honoree's from the cover: Kendrick Lamar, Yelawolf, Cyhi The Prynce, B.I.G. Krit, Mac Miller, Lil B, Lil Twist, Meek Mill, YG, Diggy Simmons, and Fred the Gibson. Instead of complain about this list, we're just gonna come up with our own so look for that in the coming weeks. For now peep the cover
The Air Jordan XIII Playoffs are being re-released this saturday. This shoe has never been retro'd so make sure to get a pair, otherwise you might be waiting another 10+ years.
Some of you all may know about Stalley from his ill verse and LONG BEARD on Curren$y's "Address" video/single, but for those who don't, stop sleeping and give him a listen.
Hailing from Ohio, Stalley's music has style of something you would hear from the 1990's, with a heavy dose of live instrumentation, horn loops, and jazz samples. Shit is smooth as a forehead to put it in laymans terms. yes a forehead.
Here is the video for one of my favorite songs off of his debut Mixtape "Madstalley:The Autobiography" entitled "Babbling" (yes thats Jay Electronica in the video.)
If you have a moment and like the video go to datpiff and give the whole tape a listen, u got the rogg gaurantee that you'll at least put it on your ipod.
This other video is for the song "Hercules" which is featured on Stalley's newest mixtape, Lincoln Way Night I.T.M. (Intelligent Trunk Music) which probably has the coolest artwork of any mixtape released this year (i'll post below). It was just released this past week and I plan on giving it a good listen today and tomorow so expect a review to be posted soon.
After numerous delays and a general belief that the tape wasn't gonna drop at all, Wiz shocked everyone tonight and dropped Cabin Fever..I have yet to give a good listen to the tape, but from what I've read, most of the tracks are produced by Lex Luger and Wiz has taken on a more mainstream flow...I am really hoping all the haters on Datpiff and Twitter who have said this are wrong and I will hold judgement until I hear things myself, but if Wiz has indeed sold out and lost all the creativity that made him such a potential star in both the mainstream and underground communities itll be a sad day for hip hop. All I'll really drop on you all for now will be the tracklist and link to catch a listen, but expect a full review from me by the end of the weekend.
My friend Jessica (@iheartdilla on twitter) is hosting a J Dilla tribute in DC this Saturday. With performances by my dude Top $ Raz (@topdollagotit) and one of DC's finest RA The MC (@RAtheMC), among many others, this is sure to be a great show.
These are two of my favorite up and coming rappers. I heard they were working together but I'm real excited to see what they've been cooking up. Here is the first preview of Kendrick Lamar and J.Coles work. Enjoy
Seems Phonte went on his twitter last night and posted links to a bunch of old unreleased songs that he uploaded onto swiftfm.com. One of them was the first time that he and 9th had ever recorded together...you can already see the raw talent in both Phonte's rhymes and 9ths beat.
Slaughterhouse self titled EP drops today and as a friendly reminder I thought it would be appropriate to bless y'all with the single. They've been killing the underground circuit for a while now and I'm excited to see how they do on Shady. As always the lyrics are on point.
Congrats to Wale for signing to Maybach Music. To celebrate this date he dropped two new songs from my no.1 mixtape of 2010, more about nothing. I hope Wale gets more control over his music now that Ricky's his boss and not some dude in a suit.
Ok, so I'm a day late on this post...sue me. For those that don't know, it's DILLA MONTH. Basically, people celebrate the life of J Dilla, one of the greatest producers of all time who passed away February 10th 2006. There's a bunch of shows n shit that go on to celebrate Dilla's life. I never got the chance to meet Dilla but I'm fortunate enough to be friends with his uncle and a few folks that worked with/were friends with him. None of them have ever said any negative things about him. They've all said he was a positive friendly guy that loved music more than anything in the world.
If you're asking yourself who Dilla is...well he's produced for some of your favorite artists and is probably your favorite producers favorite producer.
The dude has produced for The Pharcyde, Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes, Common, De La Soul, Slum Village, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Erykah Badu, Ghostface, and PLENTY of others. It's even been rumored that 2pac's Do For Love beat sampled a Dilla beat for it AND theres also rumor that he did the beat for Janet Jacksons "Got Til Its Gone" but wasn't credited for it.
Don't forget that at one point he was IN Slum Village, did a collab album with Madlib, and released numerous solo albums including the absolute CLASSIC "Donuts."
Check out a few of my favorite songs with Dilla beats
That's just a little starter...if you have any questions about Dilla's music or anything else that I post on this site, you can hit me up on twitter @rzanumba1 or email @ rzanumba1@gmail.com
