LeBron's Closet

Even though the heat lost this game there is some sneaker heat (no pun) when it comes to this man's closet.. I'm still waiting for a glimpse into the illustrious Akron Mansion that Larry King, a multimillionaire in his own right, was raving about last year during an CNN interview.. Till then this will have to hold us over.

Kindle vs. Books

Well, paper books are slowly but surely loosing their war against the kindle. I was holding out on getting one, not wanting to change something so simple, so rewarding as reading a book to become just another casualty of technology. I really enjoy reading, and I love after I'm done reading a lengthy (most likely Harry Potter) novel I can look back and see just how much I read.

Then today I saw this commercial. First it really pissed me off... then it really made sense to me. Books on the kindle are cheaper than paper back or hard covers (averaging $10). They don't wear out like real books, so if you're a veracious reader you can read it again and again and again without being distracted by ripped pages. They are also, obviously more eco friendly (saving trees, people).

So I don't know if I will be getting a Kindle anytime soon, I think I'll hold off for a while longer. I honestly can't imagine never walking into a Borders or Barnes and Nobel again. There is just something about actual books and bookstores. But I suppose all things must change one day.

The Revolution Will Not be Televised (Documentary)

We have posted a lot of Gil Scott Heron on this blog the past week, and to say the least it's well deserved. We lost a legend and a pioneer of hip-hop and poetry. Here is a documentary for those that want to know the man behind the music. Make sure you check out the homie Hewie's tribute that was posted earlier today.

Finals

I was expecting some form of a Miami anthem for the NBA finals, and this song is def not that. None the less, Rozay is #teamheat and if you saw the JMHO ep 1& 2 you know I'm riding w/ the heat too.

RIP Gil Scott-Heron

This is a tough one to stomach. I had been in NYC for my vacation for only a few hours when I found out and I was shocked to hear that one of my favorite artists of ALL TIME had passed. I knew he hadn't been in the best health for a while now but to actually hear that he passed was crazy.

For those that don't know who Gil Scott-Heron is, you need to get up on him. Especially if you're a fan of hip-hop. He has influenced many of your favorite artists and his music has been sampled by numerous producers. Songs like Common's "The People", Black Star's "Brown Skin Lady", Mos Def's "Mr N*gga", and many many others.

There's so much info I could post on dude but I personally think this is one of the artists that you need to listen to and get into on your own. Once you do, you'll be wanting to check out all of his albums. I recommend starting off with "Pieces Of A Man" as that is considered his greatest by many people even though I like his "Bridges" & "Secrets" albums more.

I will post some songs though from various albums. Check em out.

"The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" I always felt like this song was a predecessor of hip-hop songs

"Home Is Where The Hatred Is" Great song. Sampled by Kanye for "My Way Home"

"The Bottle" One of his biggest hits.

"Angel Dust" Another one of his hits.

"Madison Avenue" One of my favorite songs.

"Vildgolia" Another favorite of mine. I love the way the hook gets more and more powerful after each verse.

"Angola, Louisiana" Great track

"Grandmas Hands" Its close but I think this version is better than Bill Withers version

There are MANY MANY MANY more songs I could post that I love but this post is just to get you familiar with a few tracks so you can go find out about the rest of his music. I personally suggest "Pieces Of A Man" "Winter In America" "Bridges" "Secrets" and "Reflections" to start off with. Great albums.

RIP Gil Scott-Heron. Your music and lyrics were and will always be incredible.

Sledge's Tribute to Shaq

Shaq was my favorite player growing up. He brought an energy and charisma to the game that was undeniable. There was no player like him during his era, and it's questionable when we will see another. The tactics used to stop this man in his prime were limitless, implementation of zone defense, hack a Shaq, and the most disgraceful of all- flopping, were all futile. It hurts me that Kobe won more championships during his career, because I have Shaq ranked ahead of him on my all-time greatest list. That debate will rage on for years to come. This tribute isn't about what the "what could of beens'." I want to pay homage to the greatest center I had the pleasure of watching. His personality will be missed just as much as his gargantuan game. Here's to hoping he gets a chair on some broadcasting set in the near future.
